| Recently, after completing three episodes
of "Petey--The Adventures of Peter Parker
LOOONNG Before He Became Spider-Man "
for editor Tom Brennan, he asked me if I'd
be interested in coming up with a story featuring
Peter Parker AS Spider-Man, including in
the mix (deep breath now...) The Human Torch,
The Sinister Six, Mary Jane Watson (in peril),
AND Mayor J. Jonah Jameson--ALL IN TEN PAGES!!
The story wouldn't exactly be set IN continuity, I was informed, but should reflect the SPIRIT of continuity. Once I got over the shock of JJJ being elected to NYC's top job (I'm, um, a little behind the times regarding events in the Webspinner's world, y'see...), I eagerly agreed! And why not? The comic spotlighting the initial appearance of The Sinister Six--The Vulture, Dr. Octopus, Sandman, Electro, Mysterio, and Kraven the Hunter--was 1964's AMAZING SPIDER-MAN ANNUAL #1, my personal all-time favorite single comic book (and with 73 pages--including cover--of Stan Lee and Steve Ditko at their absolute peak, it's an easy choice to make.) So the story I came up with features all requested elements, plus one--Spidey's very first costumed adversary, The Chameleon, meets up with his old associate, Kraven the Hunter, seeking membership in The Sinister Six (soon to be, hopefully, The Sinister Seven), and the plot follows the antics comprising his audition! Plus, Mary Jane wears a diamond-encrusted bikini throughout! The rest you'll have to discover for yourself!! But to whet your appetite, I include below the splash page for your viewing pleasure (as well as the layout for same, which, craft-wise, is the method I utilize for turning in my scripts for editorial approval...). |

The only question you may still have is, WHERE and WHEN is this gonna appear? Um, not sure yet--but as soon as I get word, I'll let you know! In the meantime, I'm hoping we can follow this up with a tale paralleling AMAZING SPIDER-MAN ANNUAL#2. Oh boyoboy, how I'd LOVE to team up the ol' Webhead with Dr. Strange and toss 'em both in a Ditkoish dimension! Baron Mordo with knee squiggles--what a glorious day in comics' history THAT'D be!!...
